Performer • Educator • Lifelong Student of Music

Music has been a central part of Elias Cottle's life for as long as he can remember. Raised by a singer and a professional guitarist, he grew up in a home where listening to, discussing, and sharing music were part of everyday life. While his early musical education was shaped less by formal instruction than by curiosity, conversation, and attentive listening, those experiences fostered a lifelong fascination with music and its ability to communicate ideas and emotions beyond words.
As a teenager, hearing Wes Montgomery's recording of Besame Mucho sparked a deep interest in the guitar that would ultimately lead him to pursue a degree in Jazz Guitar Performance and an equally serious study of classical guitar.  Through solo guitar repertoire, chamber music, and the unique intimacy of the instrument, classical guitar became an enduring influence on his artistic development and remains a central part of his musical life today.  Over the years, he has performed in settings ranging from jazz ensembles and recording sessions to weddings, restaurants, and intimate solo concerts.  These varied experiences continue to inform his understanding of music as both an art form and a means of human connection.
Although jazz and classical guitar remain his primary areas of focus, Elias's musical interests extend beyond stylistic boundaries. Whether interpreting classical repertoire, improvising on jazz standards, or creating solo guitar arrangements, he is drawn to music that invites both performer and listener into a deeper experience of listening.
Teaching emerged naturally from this same passion. What began as helping friends gradually developed into more than sixteen years of work with students of all ages, backgrounds, and goals. His approach is built around the belief that meaningful musical growth begins not with talent, but with curiosity, confidence, patience, and genuine engagement with the process. Rather than relying on a single method, he seeks to understand each student's interests, strengths, and aspirations, adapting lessons to support their individual path while helping them develop both technical skill and a lasting relationship with music.
Whether through teaching or performance, Elias hopes to share the same sense of wonder and discovery that first drew him to music and continues to inspire him today.
